There were a handful of cameras to choose from on Amazon and I picked this one because it has a very high resolution and the cheap ones had bad reviews.
I'm pleased with the product. The resolution is excellent... the video fills up my monitor. The quality is good but as with any cam, it blurs if the pen is jumping around rapidly. The audio, which is often weak in camcorders and less important anyway, is adequate... I can clearly understand speech if the person is reasonably close and I can hear what's going on in the background.
The cam is easy to use... there's one button that controls everything, and the LED lets you know whether it's off, on standby or recording. You just connect the cam to your USB port and it's like a disk. Nothing extra needs to be installed, unless you're using the webcam feature. (By the way, the videos play best when you download them on the computer. Don't open them from the pen.)
If you're leaving the pen somewhere to secretly record, then the LED can be easily hidden with electrical tape. Also, I've found it useful to wrap a piece of black twist tie around the pen. You can then rest the pen on the table against the lip of the twist tie, and thus aim the lens at the desired angle.
I had a question about one of the features and the Ultimate Gadgets technician was very helpful with my inquiry.

Initially I had problems to configurate my pencamcorder but thanks to the excellent service that gave me in ultimate gadgets I could put to work the cam. So many times that I wrote as it was necessary they explained me to hand the pencamcorder. I thank the help given by the company althought I live in Colombia-South America. According the product is amazing, the video is really high resolution and the audio is very clear and its appeareance is very elegant.

I bought this thing because I am in sales and need to improve my performance, unbeknown to my prospects of course. This thing is perfect for that. Sound Quality is probably poorer than that of a cell phones recording capabilities, so don't buy if your looking to purchase for surreptitiously recording concerts or stand up comedy or such. Do buy if you just wanna spy on everyday interactions. Can be a lot of fun if you play practical jokes on people. I bought this thing for the picture quality and that definitely proved true. Wish I didn't have to buy a mic to get rid of all the static in the videos though...

Was pleased with my purchase overall. The video quality is nice for a pin cam. The file it creates is hd in resolution only. It looks more like a high quality 640 X 480 video thats just been digitaly converted to 1280 X 960p. Compared to other pin cams it is definitly better than any thing else I've ever seen. I also like the battery life so far. Seems to last pretty long for such a small device.
The not so good part is the photos. The photo quality looks like a screen cap from the video. The color is very poor and if anything is moving in the shot it is simple a blur in the photo. Another complaint is the reset button. The camera on occation will lock up and stop working. This is easily fixed by pressing the reset button for a second. The problem is the button is inside an incredibly tiny hole that even a paper clip won't fit in. I have to use a staight pin to reset mine. The sound sensitive auto record feature works but is extremely sensative. The HVAC kicking on was loud enough to trigger it.
If you need a video cam this pin cam device is probaly the best in its class. If your looking for a still image camera then this is not the device for you.
The camera works fine for it's inteded purpose and Ultimate Gadgets service is profesional. May 21, 2010

When I received the camera I realized that the quality of the image was not as good as I had expected. So I posted a review here on Amazon.com telling of my experiences. To my amazement about two days later I got a call from "Brian from Ultimate Gadgets" saying that he was disappointed that I was not completely satisfied with the product. He explained that because the camera uses a pin hole stile lens it won't take as good a picture as a regular cameras. After doing some research I now realize that this is actually quite true. I explained to Brian that for my purposes it would still work, but that it just wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be. The service from Ultimate Gadgets was very professional. The service people spoke English well and were knowledgeable. The service was definitely not routed through someone from a foreign country. They were very concerned about making me satisfied. To say the least I was impressed with Ultimate Gadgets service, the fact that they gave me a call and wanted to make sure I was completely satisfied means that they are concerned about keeping a good image. That is proof that they are a legitimate company.
This camera's quality is not as high as a normal camera(video or digital) but it is still usable. It would be excellent for recording interviews. And that is admittedly the kind of stuff that it was designed for. It is not a replacement for a digital camera or a video camera. You have to be aware of what you are buying and what it was intended for.
