S 70 Review December 24, 2009 James Stitley (Salt Lake City, UT USA) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I ordered one for my wife and one for me. After reading all the negative reviews on picture quality, I almost returned them on arrival. But I didn't and both me and my wife weer pleasantly amazed at the ease of use and high quality pictures we got immediately. I suspect people play with the settings and especially the high iso one and end of with less resolution for low light which may not be needed anyway. The auto function works extemely well as it select the best scene, focus and shutter. All our initial pictures were just perfect, even under less than idea conditions. For my book I give it an overall 4.5, and that is just because the camera is still new and still learning the full features, I would recommencd it as others have. None were blurred.
easy to use like an iphone! December 31, 2009 Stephen L. Winarto (baton rouge, LA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful

I love my new camera. I purchased it once I saw my friend's camera. I am happy that I purchased the camera on Amazon because I would have spent over $80 more purchasing it at BestBuy. I had a HP camera about 4-5 yrs ago but the touch option and the scene options makes each picture turn out great. I researched the best camera for the past 2yrs and according to Consumer Reports in 2009 Nikon was the best for easy to use cameras and great pics!
Coolpix S70 July 6, 2010 Kathleen O'Kelley (Rocklin, CA.) Needed a new digital camera and wanted one with a large LED screen. Researched this type of camera and found the Nikon Coolpix S70 fit my needs. Received the camera in a timely manner and I love the size of the screen and the fact I can slip it in my pocket for easy picture taking. The only negative, is that being a new owner of this type of camera I didn't realize how quickly the battery was consumed when in use. I forgot to bring the charger and missed out on some really great shots of my Granddaughter. I now carry the charger at all times !! I am still learning all the nifty features and I am having fun to boot.... Very pleased with the camera.
Make sure to cap the Auto ISO setting to 80-200 November 19, 2009 M. Lopez (LA, CA) 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
I have not tried the S70 yet (so disregard star rating) but I have noticed several reviews with the other color models noting frustrations about poor image quality. I also saw in the CNET Editor's review that they suggested that the user sets the Auto ISO limit to 80-200 for best results in most conditions and 80-400 max under difficult lighting conditions. So anyone who is experiencing photo quality issues might want to try that to see if it has a dramatic improvement. CNET said the pictures were "very good for a snapshot camera" once those settings have been changed. My guess is for some reason the camera is trying to take a ridiculously high ISO (1200-6400) and producing grainier photos as a result. As Wikipedia explains regarding ISO speeds, "In both digital and film photography, the reduction of exposure corresponding to use of higher sensitivities generally leads to reduced image quality (via coarser film grain or higher image noise of other types)." If that is in fact the problem it would still be a design flaw but one with perhaps a simple and tolerable workaround.
From the CNET S70 review:
"The photo quality from the S70 is very good for a snapshot camera...The camera lets you limit the auto ISO range to either 80-200 or 80-400. If you're in daylight or bright conditions, I recommend locking it down to 80-200. Again, it did perform well through ISO 400, but it's at its best below ISO 200."
[...]
Good luck with that workaround.
I still like the specs of this camera so plan to check it out at the local Best Buy with my own SD card and I will be playing with these settings and I will update my review once I have.
