Great lens December 31, 2008 Thomas C. Sparks (Indiana) 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
I have been using this lens for several months on my Nikon D40. A wonderful lens! The lens is relatively light in weight (especially when compared to the newer Tamron 28-300 VR lens that my wife has on her Nikon) making taking photos a real joy. The extended zoom range makes this a great general purpose lens..i.e for most situations the only lens you will need; especially useful when traveling. The image quality has been excellent, although at extreme zoom against a very light background I occasionally note some darkening around the edges (not unexpected). No lens is perfect, but on a features for the money basis, this one is not far off.
Tamron 18-250mm AutoFocus for Nikon D40 June 4, 2008 J. Crowell (Forest Grove, Or.) 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
Great lens for the price. The auto focus isn't quite as fast as the original Nikor lens that came with the camera, but much faster than I could do manually. So far can't tell a difference in picture quality either. For all-around picture taking this lens makes all my others obsolete.
Best work around lens at a very good price! March 4, 2009 Laurel Joy Garcia 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
The copy that I got is very sharp and the image quality is just great. I must say I am very happy with this lens. This lens is best paired with D90 to compensate the lack of VC. But of course, any lower model will also produce good results. At 250mm the image is quite soft but for me it is still usable. You will hardly notice this softness when you print it.
I got my lens @ Photoworld at a very good price ($299.00). What a deal!
Thanks Amazon and Photoworld!

Now over a year Old May 2, 2010 M. A. Holmes 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I purchased this lens November 2008. It has held up through weather, vacations and a toddler. It worked very well with my Nikon D50. I just upgraded to the Nikon D5000 and performs just as good. The only brief problem with the lens was it was not grounding to the body. D5000 would display "no lens attached" when it was mounted properly. This had been due to a very thin and finite slip of lubricant (probably from the mirror assembly) coming in contact with the outer smooth part of the bayonet of the body between the lens. After wiping this off a few times, the lens is again "detected" by the body. This may also be due to the way I was stowing the camera in my bag, cradled with lens pointed down.
I only notice the lens creep when walking with the camera in hand or slung on the shoulder. However, I have yet to notice it while shooting. Images are very sharp through the entire focal range. It's great not to have to change lens in haste to capture the moment. I have been able to capture more great moments on the fly with this awesome lens. Being there ready to fire the shot, and getting it, has been priceless. Changing lenses and I would have missed it.
I highly recommend this wonderful lens from Tamron.
